Just read this in the Kuwait Times
”Statistics released by the General Department of Migration earlier this week revealed that there are 100,000 expats living in Kuwait without valid residency. The report cited Bangladeshi expatriates as a group with the highest number of residency violators, followed by Indian expats, Sri Lankan expats, Indonesian expats, Egyptian expats, Filipino expats, Syrian expats and, finally, Ethiopian expats. The question is, however, where exactly are the Western expats in these statistics? I have personally met many Western expats who leave Kuwait every three months, returning and working on their visit visas. This may be a slightly different issue to expats whose residencies have expired over time but, nonetheless, is just as illegitimate as they are in the country under false pretences. Isn’t that living without valid residency, too?”
Yes, it is, but many of these ‘westerners’ living here and working on Visit Visas are lied to. I know. When I first came out here, I was told, my visa would be ready in 6 months, it never was.
I was lucky the next year to receive my visa at the beginning of the contract…but MANY companies here in Kuwait bringstaff out on Visit Visas with the promise of a working visa within the first three months…………..it never appears.
I was actually told at the beginning of a contract in one company, ‘there is no problem if you need to take 2 or 3 days to do a visa run’…………..
Needless to say, I didn’t hang around there for long and moved on to a more reputable company.
These ‘visa runs’ are often teachers and it really isn’t fair to put the blame onto them. They don’t know the ins and outs of the system…they are always told ‘the mandoub is dealing with it’, ‘it will be ready soon’, ‘we don’t know there is a vacation’, ‘etc, etc, etc’.
The majority of violaters are runaway maids…………would be interesting to see statistics on sex. I can bet the number is higher for women……………..
